There are tons of events going on in Des Moines during the summer and it’s hard to keep track of them all. To make things easy for you, I’ve made a list of 6 upcoming events for you to check out. Enjoy (Des Moines)!
1) Des Moines Bocce Ball Social Club – First Event
Date/Location: Tuesday, July 27 at 6:00 p.m. at Jasper Winery
Cost: Free to hang out with awesome people, but bring a few bucks for drinks
Bring your bocce balls and head over to Jasper Winery for the Des Moines Bocce Ball Social Club’s first event! Enjoy the evening by drinking a little wine, beer or sangria, by making a few new friends, and by playing some bocce ball.
2) Blank Park Zoo’s Zoo Brew
Date/Location: Wednesday, July 28 from 5:30 – 9:00 p.m. at the Blank Park Zoo
Cost: $10.95 (regular zoo admission)
It’s that time again…the final Zoo Brew at the Blank Park Zoo. Come out and enjoy the night, which features music by Pianopalooza, wine tasting by La Vida Loca, Jasper, Prairie Moon, Southern Hills and Summerset and of course, you’ll get the chance to see all of the animals!
3) Social Media Club Des Moines –Christian Renaud: “Can B2B Prove ROI on Social Media?”
Date/Location: Wednesday, July 28 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Jasper Winery
Social Media Club of Des Moines will host Christian Renaud (pictured to the left), CEO of Palisade Systems, who will speak on the topics of return on investment in relation to social media and how social media marketing pays off for business. There will also be a social hour including wine and beer from Jasper Winery and food from Jethro’s BBQ.
4) Italian American Heritage Festival of Iowa
Dates/Location: Friday, July 30 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 a.m. Saturday and Saturday, July 31 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 a.m. Sunday on the Court Avenue Bridge downtown
Cost: Admission is free on both days until 5:00 p.m. From 5:00 p.m. – midnight a $5 admission fee will apply. A portion of the admission fee will be donated to the Make A Wish Foundation.
Visit the Italian American Heritage Festival of Iowa, “VIVA L’ITALIA,” this weekend in downtown Des Moines. The festival includes bocce ball, contests, Italian culture, entertainment and great food and drink vendors such as: Tumea & Sons Restaurant, Lucca, Sbrocco, Graziano Brothers, Inc., Cosi Cucina Italian Grill, as well as many others!
5) Louis Armstrong Birthday Bash
Date/Location: Wednesday, August 4 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on the south lawn of Salisbury House & Gardens
In honor of Louis Armstorng’s birthday, Salisbury House & Gardens will host the Louis Armstrong Birthday Bash featuring Party Gras Classic Jazz Band. Shuttle service is available and there will be a wine tasting from Jasper Winery, gelato from Capanna Coffee & Gelato and home-baked treats from Arcadia Café.
6) Run, Rock & Stroll benefiting Children’s Cancer Connection
Date/Location: Saturday, August 7 at 8:00 a.m. in Water Works Park
Cost: Entry fee is $10 for children (ages 3-10) and $25 for adults
Take part in Run, Rock & Stroll, a 10K, 5K, and 1-mile fun run with proceeds benefiting Children’s Cancer Connection. Besides the race, the event includes inflatables, a Kid’s Village, live music, free post-race massages and homemade baked goods! Registration is available online.
