Historic homes, unique architecture and live music. Sherman Hill’s “Doors to the Past” has it all and will be held on September 21-22 and 28-29, 2013.
This is the 37th year for the “Doors to the Past” tour, which typically features 10-12 historic homes located in the Sherman Hill area. Visitors walk from home to home on the tour and are met by homeowners and volunteers as they arrive at each location. Homeowners and volunteers will guide visitors through the homes, answer questions and speak about the history and architecture.
The homes in the Sherman Hill area are unique and date back to the 19th and 20th centuries. Since the 1970’s, homeowners and businesses have been restoring the area and in 1982 Sherman Hill was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Districts. There are more than 150 homes and apartments in the area, which feature many different architectural styles such as: Victorian, Queen Anne, Italianate, Classic, Stick and Flemish.
This year’s tour will showcase live music by the Max Wellman Trio (9/21, noon – 2:00 p.m.), Ortonville Circus (9/29, 1:30 – 3:00 p.m.) and Bill Matykowsi (9/22 and 9/28, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.). Music will be located on the Wallace House porch at 756 16th Street.
