What I’ve Been Up To Lately…and When I’ll be Back!

DoSomethingDrake_TheDishonDesMoinesThere’s a mantra I’ve embraced for many, many years. “If you aren’t going all the way, why go at all?” I’ve always been the kind of person who either gives 100% or doesn’t commit at all.

For the last two years, I’ve been working full-time while getting my Master’s at Drake University in Des Moines. I’ve absolutely loved the experience, people and challenges, but I’ve had to cut back on a lot of other personal activities to do so. I’ve stepped off of a few non-profit boards, I’ve spent countless nights and weekends reading and writing for various classes, I’ve missed out on activities with friends and I’ve cut back on blogging for The Dish on Des Moines. (It’s all been hard to do!) Although, I do believe it’s been well worth my time and investments.

I love Des Moines. I love meeting new people. I love exploring the city. And while I haven’t stopped doing those things, I have taken a slight break from blogging about those experiences in order to focus my attention on my school work. It takes a lot of time and dedication (and a decent amount of caffeine) to get your Master’s degree as a working adult. In order to be fair to myself, I either needed to commit 100% to my education or not at all. I chose to take two years of my life and commit them to one of my dreams – getting a Master’s. I’m life-long learner and I have an inquisitive mind. It was something I had to do for myself. And now, that journey is almost complete!

Here’s the good news!

I’m really close to graduating. I’ll be walking in the graduation ceremony in May and my final class will be complete at the end of June. Therefore, starting in early July – I will be back and ready to give you the dish on all things Des Moines!

Thank you for being patient with me if I haven’t responded to all of my emails. Both you and I know that I haven’t been able to post as frequently as I’d like. But do know, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. I will be back to writing before you can quickly say Tacopocalypse three times in a row. Talk to you soon, Des Moines!

(P.S. If you want to learn more about the Master’s of Communication Leadership program at Drake, let me know and I’d be happy to chat with you about it! It’s truly a worthwhile program, which is led by top-notch professionals right here in Des Moines. Go Bulldogs!)
